It may seem that the majority of posts revolve around the Premier League, however I feel this year has been particularly important for them marketing wise: They have challenged multiple important issues, and this one is just as crucial the others.
The Facts
With 1 in 4 people being impacted by mental health problems every year it is important people feel encouraged to open up about their struggles. It is a wide-scale problem that effects over 670 million people worldwide. In the UK alone over 6,500 people committed suicide which is an ever increasing number, significantly higher than 2017. Therefore, it is more important now than ever before to help tackle this problem. It is crucial that we all feel comfortable in opening up about our struggles and emphasise how it is never helpful to hold in these worries, as nobody is ever alone.
The Premier Leagues ‘Heads Up’ campaign
The Premier League have had many different themes throughout this year raising awareness for different problems. This is no different – after partnering with the Heads Up mental health campaign through two weeks in February, there will once again be a complete redesign focused on raising awareness and encouraging conversation regarding mental health. Due to the sheer popularity of the Premier League and its international presence, this will be a perfect start to helping struggling people to get the boost they need to seek help and should have a positive impact globally.
Everybody is Human.
Many people feel alone when struggling with mental health issues, but this is far from the truth. Many past and present players will open up about their own struggles to encourage others to also open up. Overall, this should be a great marketing campaign and is accompanied through the hashtag #kickoffaconversation which will also be used on all social media platforms.
So as always, thanks for reading and if you ever feel down then remember to open up. It really will help and it is important to reiterate no matter how you feel you are never alone.
