Is this genius marketing or a mistake that will end up with Sainsburys getting involved?
Off License owner Mandeep Singh Chatha rebranded his shop last month to uncannily resemble one of the big four supermarkets.
If you haven’t guessed already, its Sainsburys!
His reasoning behind the renaming is apparently a sheer coincidence of utilising both his name and the street his shop is on, Bushbury Road in Wolverhampton.
He has already stated that ‘people keep stopping in their cars to take pictures with the sign’ and I could guess that many of these visitors would also take a trip into the store giving Mr Chatha a sudden increase in sales. Despite the same colour scheme as many Sainsburys Local stores Mr Chatha has stated that they are completely different shops and he does not understand why the supermarket giant would intervene.
This has happened before and may mean Sainsburys will intervene
In 2017, a store in the North East of England chose the same name however after being threatened with legal action decided to instead rebrand as Morrisinghs, which may or may not resemble another big four supermarket organisation.
And so, the question is. Is this really good marketing and will Mr Chatha succeed in keeping Sainsburys on side or will it result in backlash? Let us know and give this post a like if you enjoyed, as always thank you for the support! 😊
